Project Overview
The wiki
information format is strongly emerging as the next
generation of information sharing on the Internet.
The concept combines an appealing, open display of
words and pictures with a collaborative approach to
collecting and editing information and topics.
From the famous Wikipedia to internal corporate
wikis created as dynamic ways to share procedures,
documentation and history, the world is quickly
embracing the structure.
Marketswiki complements the niche
served by the John Lothian Newsletter and
Environmental Markets Newsletter. Just as the
newsletters have a unique and dynamic focus on the
inner workings of the financial and environmental
markets, Marketswiki creates a dynamic place for
participants and observers in those markets to
learn from and teach each other.
Day by day,
Marketswiki will build information pages
related to people, companies and events that shape
and drive the financial and environmental markets.
People in those industries will be encouraged to
become contributors as well as readers,
accelerating the growth of the knowledge base.
Finally, Marketswiki will reach out to other
organizations to assist them in the creation of
their own wiki information sites.
Time Frame
The wiki project
was structured in two stages; a pre-launch initial
stage and post-launch stage.
During the
pre-launch stage we secured sponsorships and built
a team of professional journalists and consultants
to help sponsors to reformat their publicly available
information from web sites and other materials onto
the wiki. We also offered consulting services to
sponsors to help them build their own internal
wikis. During post launch we have increased
our focus on soliciting general contributors to the
wiki from among the ranks of the paid subscribers
to the John Lothian and Environmental Markets
Newsletters.
We
provide the opportunity for sponsors to gain
advertising and marketing visibility on the wiki
web site and in the John Lothian Newsletters.
MarketsWiki
officially launched to the public on January 11, 2008. After the
launch, we initiated a campaign to build the
number of contributors to the wiki. We began
to include regular wiki updates in a special
section of the John Lothian and Environmental
Markets Newsletters.
Sponsorships
There are four
levels of sponsorships for the wiki project, listed
in order of commitment to the project: Partners,
Contributors, Supporters and Friends. Sponsorship
rewards vary by level. We have limited the number
of Partner level sponsors to 15.
