Rick Lane, chief technology officer of Trading Technologies is overseeing a major overhaul of how Trading Technologies develops its solutions. In part 1 of this two-part conversation with JLN editor-in-chief Jim Kharouf, he talks about mobile trading trends, the legacy challenges for the futures industry and rebuilding Trading Technologies’ entire architecture — and how this will all come together. Regulatory Changes: A Pretty Picture For Gross Margining

Philippe Buhannic, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of TradingScreen has had his feet firmly planted at the executive level in the financial industry for many years now, including in positions as a managing director at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and as chairman and CEO of Fimat Futures USA Inc. He recently talked with JLN Managing Editor Christine Nielsen about the current environment and outlook for the industry, including an anticipation for the futurization of swaps, a topic which has garnered a good deal of attention recently as Dodd-Frank regulation starts to take hold and new ways of doing business must be built.

Justin Bouchard, CEO of AlgoFast, has built his firm on event trading with new technology that allows traders to take positions on events such as Federal Reserve and central bank statements, employment reports, earnings and GDP numbers. He spoke with John Lothian News editor-in-chief Jim Kharouf about event trading, how AlgoFast works and why algorithms are not a bad thing.

Byron Baldwin is senior vice president of buyside relations for Eurex. He moved to New York from Eurex’s London office to in February 2011 in order to promote the firm’s listed products, connectivity for high frequency trading firms, and to promote Eurex’s move into OTC clearing. Baldwin spoke with John Lothian News Editor-at-Large Doug Ashburn about regulatory changes across jurisdictions, mandatory clearing of OTC derivatives, margin and collateral efficiency and Eurex’s individual segregation model.

Gary DeWaal, group general counsel at Newedge, has been a stalwart of the futures industry for 30 years. He recently announced his “retirement” from Newedge, effective at yearend. DeWaal spoke with JLN Editor-in-Chief Jim Kharouf about how the futures industry has evolved and changed over the past three decades, where it goes from here, and why the word retirement should not really be used in the same sentence as Gary DeWaal.

Evgeni Mitkov, CEO of SURFACExchange, launched the FX options ECN in August 2011. Just over a year later, they’ve attracted almost 50 firms by offering the ECN to currency options traders through a no-install browser-based platform. Mitkov spoke with JLN Editor-in-Chief Jim Kharouf during the Profit & Loss Forex Network Chicago, about how the FX market is holding up, how the participation base is shifting away from banks, and where the FX options space is moving.
