Futures For Kids FFastCricket Game

BY John Lothian Newsletter » June 18, 2013 AT 9:26 am

From FFastFill:

Last year through your support and generosity we raised a fantastic £12,000 for our industry charity, Futures for Kids, though FFastCricket, a highly competitive match between England and the Barbarians which saw the Three Lions, captained by FFastFill Chairman Keith Todd, narrowly pip the Babas, captained by our CEO Hamish Purdey.

In 2013, the Babas are out for revenge and have laid down the gauntlet for a rematch. The teams have been selected (and some have even been in the nets putting in a little prematch practice – cheating?) so come and join us for an afternoon of sport, sun and a glass of Pimms whilst we raise money for this fantastic charity.

We are looking for sponsorship for both teams, so please support whichever is closest to your own sporting affiliations by using the links below and help us to beat last year’s total.

Forget the Ashes, if there is one sporting event you attend this summer, make this it! We welcome you all to support the teams at this sporting spectacular which will take place at the HAC Cricket Ground, City Road, London, EC1Y 2BQ (http://the.hac.org.uk/location-map/) from 4.30pm on Weds 26th June.

Sam Furness Releases Christmas Song to Support Futures For Kids

BY John Lothian » December 5, 2012 AT 5:55 pm

The son of John J. Lothian & Company, Inc. advisory board member Clive Furness has released a holiday song online with the proceeds donated to the U.K. children’s charity Futures For Kids. Sam Furness, 23, has released HO! HO! HO! (Way to Go!), a 3:49 minute track of  Christmas-themed 60’s pop music in an effort to raise funds for Futures for Kids.

The song is available at http://samfurness.bandcamp.com/ to listen to and you can download it after naming your own price to donate to Futures for Kids.

The younger Furness is a year removed from graduating from university with a drama degree.  He wrote the song and played all the instruments except the drums.  He also did all the vocals.  He is pursuing a career as a musician, while also working for a headhunting company in the music industry.

June 28, 2012: Barclays Fined by U.K., U.S. for Falsifying Libor Rates; Tensions rise over regulatory over-reach; Regulators Probe Role of ‘Glitches’ in Market Upheavals

BY Sarah Rudolph » June 28, 2012 AT 9:10 am

Barclays is fined most of its petty cash and actually has to admit wrongdoing in the LIBOR rate-fixing scandal; more fallout may occur both within Barclays and in other accused institutions. As national regulators struggle to oversee a global financial industry, tempers rise as various agencies are viewed as playing in their neighbors’ yards without permission. Stock market overseers are looking into the possibility that a number of past market mayhem events may have had roots in electronic corruption of one version or another.  In today’s First Read, John provides the latest “kilt blackmail” photo, this time of Simon Rostron at the Futures For Kids fundraising gala.

Futures for Kids Walk to Work raises £60,000 for 4 chidren’s charities

Futures For KidsFrom Futures for Kids:

London’s futures and options industry joined forces with the foreign exchange community last Friday in the 2nd annual35 mile plus Walk to Work on 4 routes to the City for 4 children’s charities raising in the process almost £60k.

The Futures For Kids Walk to Work 2012 raised funds for four children’s charities with a mix of local, regional and international coverage – Demelza House, Hope HIV, Everychild and Variety.

The inaugural 2011 Walk consisted of a single route but this year the event was greatly expanded with walkers starting out on 4 routes from Tunbridge Wells, Guildford, Tring and Billericay.

Almost 100 Futures for Kids supporters joined the effort including executives from brokerage houses, banks, proprietary trading firms and software vendors. They were boosted by a very strong contingent of senior management from London-based derivatives and stock exchanges, trade associations and specialist publications. Exchanges represented included Turquoise, Deutsche Boerse, Eurex, NYSE Liffe, Nasdaq OMX, Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange and Singapore Exchange.

London’s futures and options industry joins forces with the foreign exchange community to slog 35 miles plus on 4 routes to the City for 4 children’s charities

Despite the bad weather, country lanes, public footpaths and bridleways around the Home Counties and beyond have seen a marked increase in use by an intrepid bunch of futures and options and foreign exchange industry executives in recent weeks. The reason? The Futures for Kids ‘Walk to Work’ and the sudden awareness that a good pair of walking shoes and a few plasters to ease the pain of those blisters will not suffice to drag those ageing legs some 35 miles to the City of London.

The FFK Walk to Work 2012 is raising funds for four children’s charities with a mix of local, regional and international coverage – Demelza House, Hope  HIV, Everychild and Variety.

The inaugural 2011 Walk consisted of a single route from Tunbridge Wells and 25 walkers raised £48k from friends, colleagues and customers. This year, instead of spending the day worrying about the next Eurozone crisis and pontificating about straight through processing, latency or the ‘flash crash’ some  one hundred City executives will ‘walk to work’ to the City on 4 routes from  Tunbridge Wells, Guildford, Tring and Billericay on Friday May 18th.

A broad spectrum of market participants has joined the team including executives from brokerage houses, banks, proprietary trading firms and software vendors. They are boosted by a very strong contingent of senior management from London-based derivatives and stock exchanges and trade associations including Futures and Options Association CEO, Anthony Belchambers , the COO of the London Stock Exchange owned trading venue Turquoise, Adrian Farnham , as well as representatives from Deutsche Boerse subsidiary Eurex,  NYSE Liffe, Nasdaq OMX, Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange and Singapore Exchange.

The team hope to be striding (or limping) into Paternoster Square after a long day’s ‘yomp’ between 5 and 7.30 pm to celebrate their efforts with the beneficiary charities and support groups at a Finish Line party sponsored by Eurex (who are also supporting the checkpoints on the 4 routes) and to receive awards sponsored by ICAP-owned post-trade software company, Traiana.

Unless they intend to trade on their mobile telephones they won’t actually be working, of course, but they will be doing much to raise the profile of the caring side of the City. FFK believes it is well on its way to its target of 100 walkers raising £100k between them for the 4 charities and already has over £32k in pledges.

Join London’s futures and options and foreign exchange communities on four routes from the Home Counties to the City of London in aid of four fantastic children’s charities.

Our inaugural single route event raised £48k – help us reach our target of £200k in 2012.

John Lothian Meets Jeremy Grant’s Kilt Challenge at Futures for Kids Gala Dinner

BY John Lothian Newsletter » June 13, 2011 AT 5:46 pm

Here is a picture of me in the kilt I wore to meet Jeremy Grant’s fundraising challenge for Futures For Kids.  The Financial Times’ Jeremy Grant had challenged me to wear a kilt to the gala dinner for the International Derivatives Week Futures for Kids Gala Dinner.  He promised £100 if I did and encouraged me to find other donors.

With the help of some industry friends I raised over £3000 through a combination of gifts via the http://www.justgiving.com/John-Lothian site and some checks directly to Futures for Kids.

Thank you to all who gave to the Kilt Challenge and Futures for Kids.

Jeremy wants this to be an annual challenge and has empowered me to pick the next kilt wearer.

-John J. Lothian
